Context

Mali has been going through an insecurity crisis for some time due to conflicts and inter and intra-community tensions in the north and center of the country. Several acts of violence are perpetrated against the civilian population, especially in the regions of Mopti, Ségou and Gao.

In 2020, nearly 128 attacks were recorded in the villages and 89 population displacements were recorded.

The upsurge in village attacks continues to provoke forced, reactive or preventive displacements. The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has quadrupled in two years because of the persistent insecurity in the north and the center to reach more than 250,000 in April 2020, against 60,000 in April 2018. Among these people nearly 50% live in the regions of Mopti and Ségou and more than half (58%) are children under the age of 18.

Public infrastructure such as schools, bridges and ferries are increasingly subject to acts of sabotage, in particular through the use of explosive substances.

This prevailing situation in the country leads to an increase in famine; lack of education, malnutrition, unemployment, prostitution, health problems, etc….

To help Mali in its fight against the insecurity crisis and to ensure the safety and dignity of civilians, DEDI is implementing humanitarian emergency activities with the help of the Malian state and its partners.
